Hi all,

This is longshot, but I'm hoping somebody might be able to dig something out.
I'm trying to build a model of each aircraft flown my Grandad, and mark them as accurately as possible.
During his flying time on Vulcan B1's he flew a Hunter T7 on May 10 1960, presumably from Scampton. The log book only records the number of serial, so I only have 702.
On May 23rd and 26th he Flew an Anson 19, from Scampton (into Lyneham on 23rd if that helps) with serial ending in 166.

Can't find either of them on the UK serials website.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

The Hunter may have been at Lossiemouth. Log book is unclear of departure airfield, but he was based at Scampton in '60.

There were two Hunters ending 702 - WT702 T.8 (crashed 1982) and XE702 T.68 which went to the Swiss Air Force - still extant at Dubendorf Museum.

Can't find anything immediately to confirm which of these could be your frame - over to you to carry on the research!

For the Anson I can find four Mk 1 but only one 19 - TX166. (For info the Mk.1s are K6166, W2166, AX166 & DJ166). again I will leave you to research as I cannot see dates in my records for fates etc. TX166 later became G-AWML in 1968 and wfu 1970.

Hope this helps
Regards
Ian

The Hunter T.7 was not XE702 as this was a single-seater until converted to a two-seater for the Swiss AF in the mid-70s. WT702 was converted from an F.4 to a T.8 during 1959 and delivered to the Royal Navy at Lossiemouth - so that must be the one!

No comment about the Anson, except that I saw TX166 in my younger days when it was a visitor at RAF Horsham St Faith and/or RAF Coltishall during the 1950s or 60s. That would almost certainly be the one as the other four mentioned by Ian were probably long gone by 1960.

Hope that helps.

Anson TX166 visited RAF Leconfield during the early 1960's. Vulcans were regularly deployed to Leconfield so crew ferry aircraft etc. were seen on an almost daily basis. I hate to say it but Anson's became boring after a while. (Over 70 logged) How I wish we could see them now.

Guys, thank you so much.

I found the Anson late last night after posting, TX166 it is.

As for the Hunter, the T7/T8 confused me, guess its just a log book error. Nice to have confirmation it was at Lossie though. So WT702

Again, thanks, I'm sure there will be a few more as I work through the log book.
