Mildenhall Air Fete 1991

Post by Hendon Chipmunk » Tue May 26, 2015 9:52 pm

Can anyone help identify these aircraft seen on Sunday 26th May 1991 at that year's Mildenhall Air Fete?

Jet Provost T5B in 6 FTS special colour scheme. I logged it as XW325 but Scramble has XW429!
4x Alouette III of the RNLAF Grasshoppers that flew in the display.
Andover E3A
Gazelle AH1 of the AAC Eagles that flew in the display.
Austers of the civilian 'Military Auster Flight' that flew in the display.
8x Alpha Jet of the Patrouille de France that flew in the display.
Mirage 2000C (flying?)

Thanks in advance!

I was there on the Friday for arrivals, and the Saturday display, and have the special scheme Jet Provost as XW429 'C'. The other Jet Provost was XW293 'Z'.

Sorry cannot help with anything else.

Thanks!

Just a thought - the Andover might have been the jump aircraft for the RAF Falcons parachute display team?

BARG confirms your JP as XW429/C.

It doesn't list an Andover on the ground or flying through.

As to the PdF it says code 0 left on Saturday night with the rest of the team departing Sunday morning!

It doesn't list which aircraft were fliers and which ones were spares.

Eagles soar, but Weasels don't get sucked in to jet engines.

Andover E.3A XS644 115 Sqn was there on Sat 25th. No note as to Static, flying or just visiting. If I find my old log I'll let you know.

I have the 4 Alouettes as:
A-465, A-453, A-499 and A-324. Also got A-374 further in my log so spare?
Austers I have:
XR244, XP282, WE569, TW536, TW467
Weren't the Gazelles "The Sharks" of the RN? I have:
XW886 (48), XW853 (53), XW884 (41) and XZ938 (45)
Mirages noted were:
511 (2-FH), 514 (2-FK) but don't know which one flew.

No mention of an Andover in my log.

Thank you!

For completeness, Alouette III A-374 was in the static but wasn't a Grasshopper. By process of elimination, from Scramble, the spare Grasshopper which didn't display must have been A-350.

The aircraft participants check list confirms that the Andover was flying as support for the RAF Falcons parachute display team.
