Farnborough 1992

Post by mudhen15 » Fri Jun 27, 2025 4:45 pm

One long shot and one easier for Farnborough 8th September 1992.

Spitfire the flew with the Tornado F.3,possibly with a P code

US Army OH-58D 87-0750,which I'm assuming should be 87-00750, but cant find any confirmation. Also the unit with which it flew would be appreciated.

Thanks for reading

The show list in 'BAR' makes mention of only one Spitfire, BBMF Mk XIX PS915/-, but there is no metion of it (or any other aircraft) displaying in conjunction with a Tornado F.3.

The list has the OH-58D as 87-0750 (ex OH-58A 72 21172) of D/5-158thAVN, which arrived with two UH-60As.

Thanks for the reply. Definitely had a tornado spitfire flying together. May no be the correct year. Thanks for the Kiowa details.

The Spitfire would have been BBMF PS915. At the time it was painted in camouflage with a yellow P in a circle to replicate the prototype markings carried by RAF aircraft during WWIi, which gave the appearance of it being coded P. I think it was painted to represent one of the prototype Griffon-engined Spitfires.

Kind regards,
LH01.

Thanks LH01. Assumed it would be BBMF if flying with the Tornado, but have learnt never assume with markings.
