F-16 into Lakenheath 07/09/97

Post by acsmith117 » Wed Sep 04, 2024 8:50 am

I saw a group of these (4 F-16C 1 F-16D?) on approach to Lakenheath on this day.
Were there more or just this five and if so anyone for the serials?

I have MAR but only as far back as 1999.

Many thanks

Andy

Found this in BAR/BARG 09/97, might help if you got your date wrong.

The six Illinois ANG aircraft arrived from Springfield on 6th September as "Cube 71-76" then departed to Powidz , Poland two days later for Exercise 'Eagle's Talon 97 ' (refer to the news item earlier) using the same callsigns. They came back to Lakenheath from Powidz on 17th September as "Cube 71-76" then departed to Springfield on the 19th as "Mazda 71-76 ".

The two Colorado ANG machines, both of them drop-outs from 'Coronet Blade', were flown in from Karup, Denmark on 7th September as "Redi 11+12 " and they continued to Bangor, ME as "Cube 24+25 " on 9th September.

Steve/Phil
Many thanks for taking the time to answer.
I will double check my notes when I get home but had noted there were definitely more than a pair.
Could be I got the date wrong.

Thanks again

Andy
