I'm not sure of the year, but during Farnborough Airshow I visited Blackbushe. Parked near the A30 was a C-124.
It is the only one I saw this side of the Atlantic. Can any one help with the serial please?
I know it's a long time ago, but I'm still curious.
Thank you Uncle.

Courtesy of the Blackbushe Airport then and now facebook page and Peter Brown 'C-124 Globemaster. 8th September, 1959, 51-5207 of the United States Air Force's 14th Troop Carrier Squadron. seen at Blackbushe.'
There are also some photos there.
Hope this helps.

The title of your post suggests that this was 1972 or 1974, surely it must have been long before that?
Possibly 1959 as chrisov has said above?

Hi Chrisov and Mike, thank you for the replies. In 1959 I would only be 10 years old,and in those days it was
shankses pony any were I went. Too far to walk at that age. On reflection it may have been 1968, trouble is
age and memory have caught up with me. However I can clearly see the Globie siting by the A30 even now.
Oh well it's something to ponder on.
Thanks again Guys.

Hi

Due to the length of the runway in 1972/4 it was not possible for a C-124 to get into Blackbushe at that time , the first and only known C-124 to visit was the afore mentioned 51-5207 , After its closure in 1960 all the larger traffic went to Odiham for Farnborough week , there was a C-124C 52-0980 there in September1960 the next nearest one seems to be in Southampton Eastleigh 52-0949 in May 1968

Living just 2 miles from Blackbushe I have an interest and got this info from local spotters at the time and 2 great publications by Robert Belcher on the history and turmoil of the airfield , both very interesting reads with some great photos . I wish I had lived here in its heyday

I hope this helps a little

Hi Chrisov, Mike and Paul,
After talking to my Father, he is still with us at 97 years young. He worked for the military as a civilian driver at Byfleet(AORG), one of his duties was to take the boffins and senior officers to the airport (Blackbushe) from 1956-60. He told me when certain people were his passengers they did not object to me coming along for the ride. I do remember General Sir Brian Horrocks. Any how maybe it was then in 1959 that I saw it. I guess I'll never really know the answer. Thank you for the replies and advice guys, much obliged to you all.
Uncle
