60672 also arrived that morning 60mu.

Having gone 6 years without a B-52 visit, Upper Heyford gets 6 in the space of 3 days. By co-incidence B-52G's 76475 and 80229 had diverted in on the 14th while on a round robin from the `states.(Both 42BW although 229 wore a 93BW badge). 76475 dep on the 15th and 80229 on the16th at 1740L

great days.

Resurrecting this very old thread, I was just looking through my transparencies and came across some pics of a B52 landing at Heyford on Thursday 16/09/76. It looks to be pretty late in the afternoon or early evening, So I was wondering if anyone might have more info, as I don't actually remember taking these!

Thanks for any help.

Small world Skymaster - I was also there on Thursday the 16th. Got there at about 0720local and they were already in - all 4 B-52D's from the 7BW Carswell. 55-0090, 55-0673, 56-0671 and 56-0672. Had a tour inside one the following week and was told they were there for about 3 weeks but didn't record their actual departure date. Also at 'Heyford that day was 58-0229, a G wearing a 93BW badge which departed from Runway 09 at 1749L. This was one of a pair which diverted into 'Heyford during the early hours of Tuesday the 14th on a flight out of Loring to Loring via the Norway area. Think it was a `Northern Wedding` mission. The other one was 42BW 57-6475 which dep on the 15th.

Aha... I'm now wondering if it's an early morning arrival, rather than late afternoon. Your memory is obviously a lot better than mine!

A shame the pics aren't better quality.

The 2 Loring 'Gs arrived at dusk on the 14th - the silhouettes were seen over Evesham on approach!

Thanks, got there in the end! I originally had the 13th pencilled in but they weren't confirmed till the early hours of the 14th. I only recently found out why 76475 diverted - HF problems prevented a transatlantic crossing. One of the crew said it took ages to get permission from the UK to allow them to divert.

Think it was a dummy mine laying mission Stuart. Problem with diverting was probably because we had a Labour Government.
