Re: REQ RAF Alconbury 2nd august 1981
Is that you Tony?
I probably went with you to Yeovilton on 1/8/81 as I was there
Wish I had gone to Alconbury on the day in question as 79-0044 was one of my last BT eagles until it crashed
Hopefully bump into you " down the 'row" later this year?
Apologies if I have got the wrong person
Cheers
Mike

Hi Tony
I was the one who noticed your post and passed the info onto Mike (Nogen51
). It is good to see that you are still in the pot for spotting.
I had a message from Noisy Dick the other day regarding a list that Wiggy had produced regarding a forum he had set up about the one percent. The phrase RIP appeared too many times.
Hope we can all meet up when times are easier.
Best wishes
Paul
P.S. Yes 74-1041 was in the Upper Heyford static on 3 July 1976, those were the days

Hi Paul
Do you still live under the ATA it's bigger than the old EGD310 that the 527thTFTAS used
in the 1970's Think it's the 323A B C ????
Slogin used to be a 57thFIS F-4C callsign I might be wrong
SAD to hear ERIC THE BOMB WING and many other one percenters that have departed
Hope to see you guys soon

Re: REQ RAF Alconbury 2nd august 1981
Hi Tony
So I don't get told off by a moderator for drifting completely off topic (Slogen51) a couple of extra bits regarding that detachment of F-15's to the Bury. An additional aircraft noted the following weekend was 78-0550 plus I suspect nearing the end on 24 August 79-0047.
Yes I am still in the wilds of Lincs. Did not have a good year last year as I was diagnosed with bowel cancer resulting in three operations. Thankfully I was given a provisional all clear.

B....y cheek. The thing I need the most at the moment is a haircut. Current style is reminiscent of 1970's. You are right they were over for DACT with the based F-5E's; those were the days something different.
Re: REQ RAF Alconbury 2nd august 1981
excuse me for butting in on this conversation - slogen51/plmc135
but I think what stands out for me this era is the security, or rather seemingly lack of. when you consider the F15A/B's were then the top bird of the fighters at that time
and they were protected by a angle iron fence post and 2 - 3 strands of barbed wire, and I don't believe I ever saw any patrols
as you both say - Happy Days
AMI - F - TF104s - CR/F4E's - SJ/F4E's to name but a few

Re: REQ RAF Alconbury 2nd august 1981
Yes I have a photo of two noggie vipers sitting on the north side and I could of stepped over the low fence onto the airfield - I would probably have been shot though.
The big problem in those days for me was Monday to Friday work !

Re: REQ RAF Alconbury 2nd august 1981
I have been a B.O.F for most of the 21st Century
My first 30 odd visits to Alconbury were probably as a passenger in your Datsun!
This thread had gone off topic - apologies to the original poster

I am saying nothing, but often saw Bitburg B-66's in my early days. Sopwith Camels in HAS's as well.

That comfirm's your a B." Old Old" F... Paul
Sounds like you remember Wright Flyer's coded BR/BS /BT/BU or BV or were some Sqdn's
still useing Wright Model B's then
Getting back on thread where the BT F-15A/B's parked at Alconbury(EGWZ) in the late 1970's
Q .Who's area was that when the 10thTRW had three Sqdn's 1st/30th or 32ndTRS
Thats funny There was a 32ndTFS/CR and a 32ndTRS/AT then they all went AR
AS & AT that was a bit before my time.
I only saw about a Sqdn worth of ex 30th/32nd Aircraft on my first visit to EGWZ on 21 Feb 1976
they were uncoded and parked with tanks some I think maybe six left on Mon 23rd. Paul will
probably tell me I do have the info in BARG 1976
The first year I joined BARG was that year and have them all up to and including 1999
WISHED I GOT THE SCRAMBLE CD as well

Montgolfier balloons were much more interesting. Cannot comment on BARG 1976 as the old ones I have are 1969 to 1975.
