On this topic I don't suppose anyone has a link to the article "Top Guns" written by Ehud Yonay for California magazine?
This was apparently the 'inspiration' behind the idea for the movie? Would be interesting to read. I've tried googling it but only found reference to the article, not the piece itself.
Regards
Neil

This is one of those threads you just got to keep returning to! Trip'trey, thank you so very much for allowing us into such a personal collection. Those MiG-15 shots, they must be extremely rare, as not many outside of the Red Eagles were privvy to even see them. Fantastic! Nevada sun . . . Polished MiG's. . . . Heaven!

I found them via a search for the article that Scorchedgrey was looking for - California Magazine. I have a hard copy of it, but not electronic and wanted to forward it around to a few folks. It was written in 1982 when Yogi and Possum attended Topgun (the old power projection course) at NAS Miramar. The article was later condensed in the Readers Digest. It had zero to do with the marines - your assertions are untrue. If you want to challange my facts, I'll have ot go in the garage and dig up the hard copy and scan it and post it. Meanwhile, you're on notice. Poser!

For those with an interest in TOPGUN the next issue of Aviation News incorporating Classic Aircraft (out January 20th) has an exclusive article by a former TOPGUN Commanding Officer. He went through TOPGUN as a student flying the F-4 and then years later became the CO when the F-14 was the premier USN fighter and in the article recounts both experiences.
