Another newbie here!

Post by AG » Wed Nov 03, 2021 11:38 am

Morning all

Live near Wantage in Oxfordshire and regularly have Brize and Fairford traffic pass overhead my house - had a B1 pass over low last week and a U2 the previous week. Other half lives closer to Fairford - had a good view of the B1’s slow climb and right turn after take off this morning. Always like to take a passing interest in what’s passing over, so thought I would join (after spending several years reading posts as a guest) to be more informed.

Over the last few years I have seen the U2s on many occasions shortly after take off from Fairford - it never ceases to amaze me the rate of climb that they achieve! I caught sight of this morning’s flight as I was driving along the A417 into Fairford - it looked fantastic as it crossed above me, silhouetted against a patch of blue sky, climbing steeply northwards at 90 degrees to the runway, yet still not beyond an imaginary line drawn from the western end of the runway. The sort of performance you’d expect from fighter aircraft, not from reconnaissance aircraft! The U2 is one truly amazing aircraft!
