Newbie trying to understand NOTAM

Post by Sawit » Mon Nov 01, 2021 11:34 pm

Hello everyone ! lately, I have been trying to interpret the NOTAMs and their phraseology, and in the "Exercises and NOTAM information" I saw this NOTAM posted by Ranger yesterday:

G0386/21 NOTAMN
Q) EGGX/QRALW/IV/NBO/W /250/270/5229N01900W999
A) EGGX B) 2111011216 C) 2111011745
E) AIRSPACE RESERVATION:
AREA:
TR1: FL270 MIMKU MOGLO
TR2: FL250 B270 MOGLO ETARI 5500N 02000W - 5430N 02500W -
5414N 02800W - 5400N 03000W
TR3: FL270 APSOV ETARI
TR4: FL270 5414N 02800W - 5530N 02500W - 5530N 02000W PIKIL SOVED
MIMKU
FLW SEPARATIONS WILL BE PROVIDED WITHIN OCEANIC AIRSPACE:
MNPS/NAT HIGH LEVEL AIRSPACE(HLA) 30NM, NON-MNPS/NAT HLA 60NM.
F) FL250 G) FL270

Later today Ranger used the term "Notam just pulled." does that mean it's expired?, erased? or was it replaced by the NOTAM of tomorrow? (also posted by Ranger) for what reason?

"Notam just pulled." equates to the previously relevant information no longer applies.....& therefore "has been removed". Subsequently posted Notams apply after that removal. Reasons for doing so are various, but in the case of Fairford (U2 Op's without Bombers)
a] Weather/Serviceability mission cancellation.
b] U2 airborne early in Notam period. No further traffic booked-in or expected = Remove. Later in the day a shorter period Notam posted for recovery of U2 after a long mission. Or NOT if it was a transit flight east or west!
c] Fairford can have a habit of posting a late Notam ! A notice to airmen ( NOTAM ) is a notice filed with an aviation authority to alert aircraft pilots of potential hazards along a flight route or at a location that could affect the safety of the flight. Since it can be geographically possible to plan a flight-route in a slow GA. aircraft, then depart before the effective Notam is 'up' can result in ATC Controllers advising of required deviations enroute !
Hope this Helps.

I'm a bit rusty with NOTAMs so I'm sure those that read them more often will correct me but....

G0386/21 NOTAMN
This is the NOTAM ID, followed by the fact it's a new NOTAM (the letter N. An R would note it's a replacement NOTAM)

Q) EGGX/QRALW/IV/NBO/W /250/270/5229N01900W999
EGGX is the location code, in this case covering the Shanwick FIR. The other bit I find relevant here is the altitudes covered, 25000-27000ft. Finally we have a more specific location, although that's not relevant for this one as it covers an area.

A) EGGX B) 2111011216 C) 2111011745
Again, location start and finish times. EGGX (Shanwick FIR) from 1216UTC on 01/11/2021 to 1745UTC on 01/11/2021 - dates are listed YYMMDDHHMM.

E) AIRSPACE RESERVATION:
AREA:

TR1: FL270 MIMKU MOGLO
TR2: FL250 B270 MOGLO ETARI 5500N 02000W - 5430N 02500W -
5414N 02800W - 5400N 03000W

TR3: FL270 APSOV ETARI
TR4: FL270 5414N 02800W - 5530N 02500W - 5530N 02000W PIKIL SOVED
MIMKU
FLW SEPARATIONS WILL BE PROVIDED WITHIN OCEANIC AIRSPACE:
MNPS/NAT HIGH LEVEL AIRSPACE(HLA) 30NM, NON-MNPS/NAT HLA 60NM.

Finally in to the meat of the notam, the E) shows the English description (hence the letter E...). This one is telling us some airspace is reserved at 27000ft between waypoints MIMKU and MOGLO, 25000-27000ft between MOGLO, ETARI, 55 degrees north, 020 degrees west, etc. and that separation of 30 miles must be maintained between this airspace and other aircraft.

F) FL250 G) FL270
Finally, we have the altitude blocks again. 25000-27000ft.

Now it's very clear to me ! I'm from Portugal and I'm looking more into Santa Maria and Lisbon FIR, I would like to contribute to "Exercises and NOTAM information" and for example, I find this NOTAM for tomorrow, is relevant to be posted there ?

I had already read it but the responses from @Supra and @EGVP made it clearer.
