Radio or App ?

Hi peeps,
Forgive my ignorance but is there a decent app I can use on my phone while out and about that will give me Military movements ?
I have used the free flight radar 24, but that seems to be only Civvy stuff ?
I have seen people talking about 360 Radar but I cannot find an app ?
Or am I just better off getting a scanner ? If so, what's a ball park figure for a half decent handheld scanner that would do the job ?
Thanks in advance for your advice !

Hi Buddy :P

Several of our 'Grim Reapers' gang have 360 on their phones, and I believe they just loaded it down from the website, as I did onto my PC and tablet :S

As for a Scanner, there are many peeps on here with far better intel than me, but perceived wisdom would point you towards the Uniden UBC125XLT as a great all-rounder for both Mil and Civvy Airband listening ;)

Paddyboy

Thanks Paddyboy, that is a lot cheaper than I thought it would be for a scanner - pleasantly surprised !!!
I will definitely look at 360 radar first though, it seems a lot of people love it !

Hi
Totally agree with Paddyboy here. 360 Radar is web based but totally accessible with mobile devices. Recommend browser is Firefox which is available as an app for free. I think subscription includes a 48 hr trial so if you don’t like you can cancel. But I can’t see why you won’t love it. One word of advice on a mistake many folks make. When you subscribe you register and make your own username and password. Then in the welcome email you get another user and password created by 360 Radar. The password starts with * This user and password is the one used to access the live flights and not the one you created. Firefox remembers the login so it’s not like you have to put it in every time.
Hope this helps Andy

Hi Andy,
Thanks for another thumbs up for 360 !
I think I will be signing up in the next few days, I enjoyed using Flight Radar 24 but got very bored when I realised it didn't cover Military movements ( I like all aviation but airliners don't float my boat like a good bit of Air Force Heavy Metal !)
So I should definitely enjoy 360 !!
Cheers !

Not a user but just looked - click on the green "Try It Now" button and take it from there. Plenty of info in the FAQs.

I always use ADSB Exchange, it's free and has most military aircraft. You can also filter what you want to see, so it can be set to just military aircraft if you want.

I second colt99 in respect of ADS-B Exchange. I was certainly tempted by 360radar but not keen on the price of GBP20 pa plus having to fully sign up just for a 48 hour trial.

I started using 360Radar a couple of weeks ago. Definitely worth it.

I've seen all sorts on there but never an F15. Do they not show up on it or do I just have bad timing?

I'm quite happy with ADSB Exchange, but have noticed on a few occasions that aircraft appearing on the list view aren't showing on the map view. For example, two P-8s that departed Lossiemouth for Sigonella last Thursday, about 15 minutes apart, were both on the list but only one was showing on the map (although the other was on the map briefly). I switched back to the list and they were both there. Weird!

But all in all, ADSB Exchange suits me fine.

Some F-15s show up, but not all.

Try freedar.uk also - it's free as the name suggests and good coverage of the UK

I used ADSB exchange until last week. I have converted to 360 Radar as a contributor, ie automatically feeding back real time aircraft positions from my set up.On that basis its FREE. I really like 360 so far as there is lots more military showing and its accurate. I tracked an F15 (Never saw one on ADSB) from Wales to right above my house near Marham ashort while ago. Timing was spot on, I saw it at the same time as the map was showing above me. It was !

The map is far far and away better with more overlays than you can shake a stick at . Ie refuelling zones, danger zones , airfields and frequencies to boot.

Phil is a great help in getting you going !

I have tried many site for Aircraft tracking without naming them, and I have a SBS-1 so decided to go with 360Radar to complement it and have never looked back, I have found it invaluable as its web based also, and as an added bonus I contribute so it cost me nothing. Besides if its £20 per annum thats just under 39p per week, I think thats good value for money if I had to pay.

On my iPad I use Flightradar24 for civvys and 360radar as a Firefox shortcut filtered for military (cleans up the display nicely) the two together are perfect for me ...
