Greetings from Stonehouse!
Afternoon all, thought I would take the time to say hello, joined a couple of weeks back but haven't had much time to post.
Anyway, I'm George, 17, from Stonehouse in Gloucestershire. I am a keen photographer of aircraft, and also trains, but I wouldn't call myself a spotter at all. Considering I don't live far from Fairford, I am taking a look at the thread regarding the potential deployment of bombers to there in the very near future. As you might imagine I do have a few questions on my mind, some of which I'm sure will sound very silly to the "experts". Firstly, what is a NOTAM? I have seem this a number of times, but I have absolutely no idea what it means! There are a few other codes etc. that I have noticed as well, if someone could give a brief explanation of their meanings it would be greatly appreciated.

Basically it is a way of informing the aviation community of variations to the (previously) published airfield operating details. Things like opening times, services that are available, navigational aids etc. Fairford isn't normally an 'open' airfield available on a daily basis, so when they want to open it for something, they post a NOTAM to tell everyone when it's going to be active. This allows/tells other aviation user that they should stay clear, or risk getting run over by a big black Buff or Bone.

Re: Greetings from Stonehouse!
Sadly not a lot of interesting trains to be seen here anymore, I much prefer Aircraft in terms of Photography as it provides more of a challenge and also is much less boring, what with a plane basically every 45 seconds at Heathrow and even at the busiest Railway Stations you can get 10-15 minute periods where there is nothing, but that doesn't stop me dedicating time to both, although that's somewhat limited by revision at the moment.peejay75 wrote:Welcome to the Forum.I used to go Stonehouse loads as have family there .Used to stay on Pear croft road if memory serves me correct. And watch trains to at Haresfield juction happydays mate

Hi Buddy,
I'm in a similar situation to you, just moved near Fairford and interested in Photography.
From what I've learnt on the forum a good place for NOTAM's is
https://www.notams.faa.gov/dinsQueryWeb/
Fairford is Code EGVA

I've done photography for a while now, was just trains but started with planes last year, in fact the first Aircraft shots I took were at RIAT last year, but I have since been to Manchester and Heathrow twice.

Re: Greetings from Stonehouse!
Hello George,
I personally use this website for NOTAM's. http://notaminfo.com/ukmap
This website is probably a bit more user friendly for the newer members but in future I would use Chris' suggestion as it is a lot more comprehensive.
Any problems let me or another member of staff know.
Steven.

Thanks Steven. I am still personally confused as to why the other one didn't/doesn't work for me, I did everything Chris said.StevenNFFC wrote:Hello George,
