Hi All

Just joined the site, names Dave, been in aviation all my life, 23 years in RAF and about the same in commercial now (I'm old!!)
Got enough scanners and radios to upset the wife lol, pretty sure I'll find lots of good stuff on here. :-)

Hi I'm based in Cheshire just outside Chester. I'm new to this site but viewed it many times to admire the photos and get information.
I'll say that I play at photography as I'm not even close to being in the same league of photographers that post on here.
The main thing is I enjoying watching and trying at least, to get that killer crisp shot that always seems to escape me.
Now is it my equipment or my post photo editing skills.
What I use to photograph with is a sony alpha a300 which is is entry level and getting on bit, some 7 or 8 years old. This is paired up to a tamron 70-300 f4/f5.6 usd lens although I do have others this is what I use for the flying stuff.

I am considering a new camera and with both my children starting to show a keen interest I'm considering jumping ship to canon or nikon and pass on the Sony to the kids. How ever I could buy a newer Sony as I have 2 300mm lenses and so save some on the cost. But I'm thinking may be 400mm lens.
Any thoughts on the best way to go would be greatly appreciated.

Please enjoy and leave comment on the photos below.

Hi All,

Just joined the forum and looking forward to reading some interesting topics.

Having retired early (not my choice :( ) I have time to pursue one of my long term passions, aviation.
Currently living near Wattisham Airfield ( better when it was an RAF base ) but Apache AH64's are better than nothing, I hope to move in the near future to move near RAF Lakenheath :thumb:
I have also recently gone back into the world of radio scanners and hope to get any tips & tricks here.

Regards
Mike.

Hello all, returning to hobby after 20 year absence. Blimey how things have changed, not least the demise of favourites such as F4, Harrier, Jaguar, B1, F14.......but C135's still flying!! Live in Northamptonshire so under flightpath for inbound Hall and OTT from Southwest. Can't believe how technology has moved on! Have acquired R820t dongle with jet vision 1090 software, Planeplotter master user and Planefinder ap. Also use live mode-s ads-b website a lot. All give great info. Don't plan to upgrade receiver just yet but hope you can give advice when it's time. Came across FC on the internet so decided to join....finding it extremely useful so a huge thank you to all in the know who contribute. Hope to meet some of you guys at the Hall when John's field re-opens..oh and at LN given all the based F15's I've not seen. Will attempt to contribute myself whilst trying not to appear dumb at the same time. Cheers. Allen

Hello all, my name is Alex. Formerly of Berkshire, now resident in Nova Scotia, Canada, 75 minutes north of CYHZ. Got into viewing aviation in the early 70's, and can remember vividly travelling on the Greenline coach to Biggin Hill (walking through the aircraft on the field and the hangars with ease) and catching the Greenline coach from LHR-LTN-LHR-LGW-LHR for a couple of quid and at least three hours at location. Joined the ATC, went to summer camps at RAF Thorney Island (XV208 Snoopy based there) RAF Rudloe Manor (nowt there) and RAF Hal Far in 1977 where we found a beaten up Victor on the side of the runway and a bent Buccaneer in the hangar at Luqa, with Canberras, Nimrods and Shackeltons on duty. Suspended aviation activities in 1984, resumed in 2005, this time holding a DSLR as well as my bins. Thanks for accepting me to the forum, hoping to exchange information both ways.

Hi

My name is Richard and we hope to be moving to Lakenheath to be near family in the summer. I don't know anything about this hobby, but I love 'planes and used to regularly go to the Mildenhall airshow.

Hello everyone.

I came across the forum last year once I started following the Fairford B-52 training exercises and have not got to join it until last week. Thank you admins for accepting my request

I am from Swindon and attend quite a few shows and events and love taking photos. My set up is rather basic at the moment but will definitely be looking to get more equipment radio/camera in the very near future. In mean time will be reading as much as I can and try to get familiar with the forum properly and hopefully meet new people :D!

Thanks for accepting me to the forum.
I live in Gloucester and Fairford would be my local , so to speak, for anything military and I make occasional visits if there is a chance of some activity. My local airport, Staverton, has been known to accept military aircraft. An A400 being a regular with its training flypasts.
I came upon this site when looking for info on the recent B52 activity
I know nothing as regards scanning the airwaves, amateurish at photography but love the sight, sounds and smell of the big birds.

Mike must be on holiday.

So,

Hello all. Thanks to site admin for accepting my registration request.

I've been a mil air fan for about 35 years (about two-thirds of my total!) Living in West Yorks. Brought up on the good old days of Finningley Air Show and Mildenhall Air Fete legendary burgers! Trying to get back into scanning having let it lapse for a while (mainly through a combination of work and my previously faithful Yupiteru MVT7100 and AOR 8200 both starting to give up the ghost - replacement needed methinks.
