User groups - still a thing?

Just reading up in the FAQs there's a section dedicated to user groups, never head of these, do they still function? Or have I opened a dusty cupboard

Bit of an odd thing to bring up to be honest and not sure why you'd even want to know let alone start a topic about it.....

As far as I'm aware the FAQ's you are combing through minutely refer to troubleshooting tips for the forum as a skeleton i.e. if you'd used this template for a gardening forum, gaming forum or anything in between.

As far as I'm aware we've never made use of the 'user group' function aside from separating normal members from staff members with regard to permissions etc.
