An anecdote.

A RAF anecdote you might find amusing? As well as the RAF, the German and Italian air forces also flew the Tornado and they were all at a NATO practice bombing range in Sicily. For reasons of interoperability they regularly swapped crews, so on one mission our narrator had a German navigator in the back seat.

They were cleared for the final run in on a bombing approach and suddenly out of nowhere an Italian Tornado popped up in front of them making his own run and the RAF jet had to make a violent evasive manoeuvre to avoid a mid air collision.

When things had settled down a little, the German navigator retorted - feck Italians, next time you can have them on your side! Who said the Germans don’t have a sense of humour about WW2.
