Had a great visit to the newly opened museum at ex RAF St Athan, Picketston site. Here is a log of military airframes noted whilst there:

Looks like a cracking little museum.

They've got big ambitions for the future, I believe.

Yep I was there yesterday, enjoyed the museum with a very good staff as well, good luck to them for the future, I will be going back later in the year.

Popped in yesterday well worth a visit .Yeah they have got a lot of plans night shoots ,fast taxiing and weddings/parties spoke of it being duxford size with 20plus more exhibits arriving soon.

They've got a great line-up of jets and great to hear they are getting 20 more soon. But Duxford size?!

That s what was said ,the guy said that most of the jets and planes ther were at bruningthorpe with the rest coming there also a barrier on site but nt being displayed yet.The real surprise was trying to get the gannet airworthy !!??don't no if that's pie in the sky excuse the pun !!

That would be the Gannet that Hunter Flying Club (now Horizon Aviation at St Athan) have been trying to get airworthy for over (at least 12 years). Maybe or Maybe not.

Your instincts serve you well my friend. This chap said next year..along with the silver hunter and provost which are already airworthy.plus a harrier which they plan to fast taxi.do you think this is all true or b.s.?

No, it's very much the truth.

Thanks for confirming, the guy I spoke to seemed very sincere .would be great to see ,starved of much action here in bristol so only a hours drive would be fab.cant wait for it to begin. Thanks for info

I went to an RAF St Athan "Battle of Britain Home day" in about 1984/5? Absolutely pelted down with rain all day, which wasn't ideal since I was on a push bike cycling from Barry Island docks to the airshow. Anyhow, that trip took me past Cardiff Rhoose Airport, which had a small museum, and onto St Athan where there was a hangar full of mainly WW2 museum exhibits, including IIRC a real Me262 and Me163. I think these were part of the Imperial War museum collection.

Shame all the above weren't kept together - would certainly be an impressive collection 35 years on.
