Post by GVLCN » Sat Oct 06, 2012 5:58 pm

Hi all landed within the last 2 hours are: C-FAYU/ 283 & C-FAYN/ 282 candair cl-215's. Both landed just before 17.00 local and were outside twin peaks hangar at 17.30 when I left about to be towed in, anyone hoping to see them they are behind the hangar door furthest from the road. Any ideas on there reason of arriving here??

Pics I taken of them arriving are under currently military on this forum as i wasn't sure how to class them!

All the best andy T.

Hi again,
I have just checked - as you rightly say these are Canadair cl-215's and are the same sort as Buffalo Airways sent across the Atlantic to Turkey for firefighting purposes.
The question still remains - why are they here and where are they going!! --Paul :thumb:

Apparently these aircraft were outside up until at least 8pm lit up in floodlights so possibly still outside and not hangared, thanks for the info Paul I went round to where they were parked up soon after shutting down and there were a film crew filming,, so imagine this crossing maybe featured on an episode???

Hi GVLCN,
That is most interesting - I have in the past worked with various TV crews and according to what you say, I would have thought it is very likely that the tv crews are doing a lot of stuff around the aircraft, in which case they are very likely to be recording another episode!! --Paul

Apparently through someone I used to work with on base, these aircraft are due deep maintenance, were still out this morning and can't imagine them being outside too long, good luck to anyone who gets them! I'll try to update on any test flights once maintenance has been carried out! Crew probably already on their way back home to turkey??

Hi DaveSheffield,

Many thanks - it was 'Ice Pilots' and not 'Flying Wild Alaska' as I thought originally.
Anyway, what a brilliant series and you are completely right - they are real characters!!
I seem to remember them saying that they were hoping to sell off some of their older aircraft so that they could upgrade to newer ones, so that ties in nicely.
The good old DC-3's and DC-4's are real workhorses, but again spares must be getting difficult to get hold of.
It sounds like they have a lot to do to them (the cl-215's) and I'd have thought that spare parts could be getting a bit sparse as these aircraft are so old nowadays -
it will be very interesting to see where they eventually end up!!
Any further info gratefully received!! --Paul :thumb:
