1:48 Hasegawa Sea King AEW2

Post by kjshaw01 » Sat Jun 14, 2014 9:01 pm

Hi All,

She's complete: -

Sea King AEW2
849 NAS
Culdrose

(Hasegawa SH-3D with Airwaves conversions plus other etched metal detail sets and 'donated' Hasegawa UK parts)

A big thank you to Paul (Vidar700) for the aforementioned donation of parts, made the conversion from SH-3D a great deal less painful!!!!!: -

One to be proud of Kev. That really has turned out lovely and the weathering is spot on. :thumb:

Good also to hear about the co-opertion and support between members. (btw, that's not meant to suggest there never was, just saying it`s great to hear about... :thumb: )

Thanks Paul, I'll keep that in mind.

Also forgot to say, another addition to the thank you as Paul supplied the decal set from a Hasegawa AEW2 as well (and AEW instruction sheet), almost tempting me into changing mid build to a dark blue prototype with A-type roundels!! Sense got the better of me, remembering that all AEWs I've ever photographed and seen are grey ones (maybe the next one will be the prototype) :D

Thanks for the kind words TC, the weathering was the first time out with a Tamiya weathering set, and won't be the last either. As you said, linking up with Paul helped me an awful lot on this build, and made the overall finish a great deal neater than it may have been using folded metal for the orange Crop kit!!!

Hi kjshaw01,
What a superb job you've done with this Sea King - it looks just like the real thing - all the research has really paid off for you with this one!!
I also like the idea of the weathering - it make it look even more lifelike!! --Paul

Hi Kev,
Many thanks for that mate! - I am hoping to be able to get hold of a model of a 771 NAS Sea King to be constructed before too long. (photos to follow hopefully!!)
In Cornwall, we love these 'Rescue' grey & red Sea Kings! - they do outstanding rescue work, fly over constantly and it is going to be such a shame in 2016 when they are disbanded and some 'private provider' comes in and takes over - the service probably wont be quite the same!! They should eventually be remembered forever!! --Paul :thumb:

Hi Paul,

One of my biggest losses in my time as an enthusiast will be the Sea King. Been there all of my life, will miss her very much.

Thinking of doing a 771 cab after the way this one went to accompany this beast :)

Hi Kev,
Yes, many thanks - I couldn't agree more and I hope that it goes well eventually - perhaps you may care to post some pics once it's all completed!! --Paul :thumb:

See them in the flesh mostly every day, and that is a superb representation of the real thing. Excellent work :thumb:
