Hasegawa 1/32 F-5E 527th TFTAS

Post by PaulN » Tue Jun 01, 2021 9:24 am

Hi
Back to 1976 this time ,July at Greenham Common  one of the first outings for F-5E's of the 527th TFTAS from Alconbury which were only delivered the month before , there were 5 there that weekend :thumb:

Kit is the old Hasegawa offering which IMHO looks a better shape that the newer Kitty Hawk kit , which I have built . Fit was not bad , a little filler required around the open gun bay parts , but with careful fitting and a little blu-tac its fine

Luckily the decals were in this issue of the kit for an Alconbury one , 01545 with the smaller "bort" number on the nose when it first arrived in the UK along with the full colour stars and bars  Finished in the Ghost scheme using Xtracolor enamels and Alcad Semi Matt varnish

I enjoyed this build , just wish there were more 527th TFTAS decals available in 1/32nd scale :(

Thanks for looking

Cheers

Paul :thumb:

That's a lovely little build. It prompts two questions:
1. Are the engine auxiliary inlet doors on an F-5E normally open on a static example and, more importantly,
2. Shouldn't a 'shades of gray' Northrop carry a warning for Paddy?
Freeman
It’s not what you look at that matters. It’s what you see.

Thanks a lot

In reply to your questions

1 Yes but being an Ebay bargain (£9.00) found there was one set of closed inlet doors missing :( Could have put a pilot in it as they often taxied with them open

2 See below
