My Lockdown Builds

Post by reaper493 » Mon Jul 13, 2020 8:17 am

Morning,

1st time posting any of my builds so go easy on me!

Bought my first one just as lockdown was looming- to give me something to do, and it kind of spiraled from there.
They are not 100% accurate, with a few small bits or decals missing, and a few construction issues meaning not always a smooth join.
I had a great time building them, kept me occupied after work (been working from home all the way through - today is day 81 :O )

All are 1/48th, with paint mainly being Xtracolour, with the odd Humbrol thrown in. - Excuse the poor quality phone snaps.

Started off with the Academy F-15C MSIP II bought through here from WelshAndy. Model is built out of the box, with the addition of Caracal Modesl LN F-15C/D decal sheets.

2nd was the Acadamy F-15i Ra'am, built straight out of the box as the example that attended Waddington Airshow in 2001.

3rd was the Revell Typhoon 'Baron Spirit' boxing, built as ZK349 GiNA from 2015, using XtraDecals. This kit doesn't have any UK markings included so stencils were non existent.

4th is the Revell Tornado F-3 ADV built as ZE791 the retirement scheme for the type, again using XtraDecals. The Flaps/slats are the most fiddly on this!

5th was a very quick and simple one, the Italeri F-117A, built straight out of the box - it does have wheels honest...

6th was a 2nd Revell Typhoon, this time built as the 11sqd special from 2015, ZJ925.

7th is the Academy F-111E, with a converion to F-111F standard and XtraDecals to make the Boss Bird from the 48th when the aircraft left for the US. This is by far my favourite, bought from Knife04 on here, thanks Darren!

Next ones to be built are the Italeri F-4E Phantom II and the Revell Phantom FGR.2 along with a 1/72 Airfix Nimrod being built as an R1 in the 51sqd retirement scheme from 2011.
I've also ordered the newly released (but I presume old re boxed kits) 1/48 F-14A and F/A-18E 'Top Gun' kits - not sure whether to do them as out of the box as Mavericks jets, do quite fancy doing the tomcat in a Jolly Rodgers Scheme.....

Finally two other builds I did a long time ago, that I was really happy with.

1/48th Airfix Lightning, built out of the box as a 92sqd example.

1/72nd Airfix Nimrod, built as the 120sqd special using Model Alliance decals.

If you've got this far thanks for looking. :thumb:

Well done Mike - great to see that F-111F as is should be - built and painted! Must have sat in my drawer since about 2003 awaiting some attention!

In the meantime I did acquire a beautifully completed 'F' from a very nice bloke on here ( ) which takes pride of place in the study! :thumb:

Some cracking builds there. Typhoon G NA definitely better than my effort with same kit.

Love the Nimrod. Great capture of the look.

Now that would look awesome in 1:48 wouldn't it..... 😁
