Red Star GB - P-40E Kittyhawk

Post by FTS » Thu Feb 07, 2013 8:32 pm

I hadn't realised there was a Soviet option in this kit. I'm going to have to buy another one of these kits now! Ah well!

After the last lot of Airfix builds that i've completed, it's a nice break to build something simple  A little bit of filler is required in some places.

I've been cracking on with this kit. I've not painted dark earth and dark green onto an aircraft in a very long time. It's tempting me to get some Spits built

I've brush painted all apart from the spinner and wheels with Tamiya acrylics. A coat of Klear had been applied just before I took these pics. The flash really highlights areas that need touching up, which is good, but makes the green look patchy, which is bad

Cheers chaps. The canopy I feel needs a bit more work. It's all painted free hand with a very thin brush. It would benefit from a few more coats.

Steve,

Did you paint it the canopy interior colour first?

Yeah I did. I used Cockpit Green but when I bought it I hadn't noticed the (IJN) next to it  I attached the canopy with Contact Clear and some seaped behind the glass. Tad bit anoying! :grr: Just thinking, did you mean did I paint the canopy frames with the interior colour first?

Yes! When I paint, I normally mask up, then spray the interior colour, which is black for a hawk, then I spray the whole model primer, and then top coat.

Not much more left to do with this. All of the references i've seen of VVS P-40Es show them to have been in faily good condition, so i've only exhaust staining and a matt coat to add.
