Varnishing question

Post by Vulcanone » Sat Oct 20, 2012 9:55 am

Morning all

A friend of mine mentioned that if you spray varnish on your kit when its painted this will help the decals settle down better.

I had sprayed one of the Canberras that I am building, and as its a silver aircraft it looks ok, if a tad shiny. However the second one I sprayed makes the light aircraft grey look like its it the hemp scheme

I had been using the Humbrol varnish from rattle cans.

Can anyone offer a better solution?

Hi Tim, yes Johnsons Klear - brushed on, just be sure to not get globules in places where it pools. Usually 3 or 4 coats to get smooth, let dry for 24 hours in warmth, but covered to keep dust off. Then decals on, allow to dry for 24 hours as the water must be completely gone. Blow off any dust with airbrush or remove anyway possible. Then a further coat or two of Klear which seals the decals down and you are ready for weathering.

Hope this helps

Hi Steve

Cheers

Once I get some I will post some pics of the finished results althought they aren't on the priority list at the moment.
