I do use the microscale decal system a lot, they do give cracking results.
A little tip I did pick up (pinch)
from a modelling forum was for bringing out the MDC in canopies.The MDC detail has to be impressed in the canopy, rather than raised, then all you do is dab a little acrylic white along the length of the impression, then wipe away the access with a soft cloth or tissue, & hey presto, the MDC becomes visible
I find 2 coats is usually enough to create the right affect.
