Hi all.

I was looking through my kits and was wondering what inspires you to make a kit? Is it perhaps an aircraft that you have worked on, grown up around or is it just completly random?

I like to make things slightly out of the ordinary, not in a 'what if' style, but those aircraft that are not widley known about. At present I am working on my Revell B-24D 1:72nd which I am building into a RCAF Liberator GR V sub hunter.

So what has inspired you to build your current kit?

With some of my recent builds its been my Grandad who is Terminally ill that has inspired me. I have made a few kits of Aircraft he has Flown over the years or even saw a picture of and said 'I like that'

Most of the time its just what I fancy or a nice set of decals I see

Great question, not sure I can give you an answer considering the way I make my models.

I suppose the simple answer would be 2 shots a JD prior to opening the box.....

I haven't built a model for over 5 Years but the last kit I built was an Airfix F-15E Strike Eagle in 48th FW RAF Lakenheath markings and the reason I was inspired to build that was I had just before that been on a Spotting Trip Down South and one of our last Stops was Lakenheath and I remembered watching tons of Eagles and Strike Eagles roaring overhead and landing so for some reason I decided I wanted to build a kit of a Strike Eagle.

Aircraft I've worked on or been associated with in some way. I also built a number of kits for a gentleman who served in the Air Transport Auxiliary, types he'd flown in or remembered at his base.
My current stack of waiting to be built:
Hawker Hunter - about 30 of them, I'm a great fan and worked on them at Wittering.
Westland Wessex - worked on/flew in with 28 squadron at Kai Tak
Venom - 28 squadron, sat outside our building at Kai Tak
Spitfire - uncle was a Spitfire pilot
Hurricane - uncle (another one!) was a Battle of Britain Hurricane pilot

To yet add to the collection
Bf109 - Black 6 because I helped restore it
VC10 - RAF, XV103 as it took me to Hong Kong and back
Piper PA28 - flying lessons in this at Kai Tak
Stampe - first , and only, aircraft I had aerobatic flights in
HS125 - RAF 32 squadron, flown in these
Gazelle - RAF 32 squadron, flown in
Pembroke - taxied one in RAF training and had a lot do do with 60 squadron visitors at Northolt
Dove - a favourite when I was at Northolt
Boeing 707 - British Eagle, first airliner I flew in

I could add a few more for various reasons...
