Lockdown

Post by Sparts99 » Tue Mar 24, 2020 10:07 am

With the enforced stay at home I'll be looking at what I've got at home tucked away, I haven't picked up the glue and knife for 30 odd years, it could get messy. Anyone else?

Me! Was given a 1/72 Lightning F6 (Revell) and Canberra PR9 (Airfix) a while ago. I had the foresight to raid the local model shop for supplies last week and will get stuck in soon. Like yourself, 30 plus years since I built anything, I think it was a Tamiya F16 in Thunderbirds colours. Good luck!

A million aviation magazines & hundreds of books will keep me busy and of course the gardening. Stay safe all. Lets hope we are all through this sooner than they say.

Yeah me too, been told to stop home for 3 weeks so as long as the telly as things to watch and stuff is happening during the day should be ok.Was off on holiday from work next week any way so a few extra days weeks won't do me any harm .

Same boat here.

I have quite a stash so will start digging into it. First build lined up is the Revell(ex Matchbox) Twin Otter. Built one in my youth and can't wait to start it. So for the next few weeks it's going to be - endlessly stirring paint pots, trying and failing to remove glue from transparencies and getting my hands covered in white spirit. Might post a photo of it when complete - depending how brave I feel. Remember though, stay safe we don't want to burden the NHS when we start super glueing our hands together.

Was just about to set up model construction, storage & display facilities such as shelves etc when all this kicked off for my models etc, now I’ve had to put that on hold until ?........

Fortunately I’ve got other things to do such as flat cleaning etc as well as that my photos need reorganised so I can’t say I’ll be bored anyway - just got to get my get up & go going!

How have people got on? I did the 72nd Airfix Mustang IV, came out pretty badly especially compared to the builds in the Gallery section, but I've learnt an awful lot, so hopefully the next one will be better. Things have certainly moved on since I last built a kit.

Mine came out OK, depending on which scale of OK you are using.... Finished the Lightning as the red tail / spine 5 Sqn machine (as seen in Andy L's Binbrook photos on Sunday) and the Canberra in hemp. Certainly wouldn't pass a close inspection but they look alright on the bookshelf. Rookie mistake was weighting the nose of the Canberra with very small lead shot which I chose to set in place with liberal amounts of glue. The glue then slightly deformed the external contours of said nose as it melted through the inside face. Ooops. Not going to rush back to making another plastic kit for a while so I moved onto a 1292 piece Technics Lego 8 wheel crane. Great fun to build, killed a few hours and had somewhat more reliable results.
