Speed is king most if NOT all of the time land, sea, and in this case air. http://oppositelock.jalopnik.com/favori ... 1079127041

I have a copy. An eBay bargain at £27. Read it over and over. Man and machine worked seamlessly.

I picked up a signed copy of sled driver from the publishers website mid 2013 (Gallery One). Was about 300 hundred US dollars inc postage but well worth it.

If you click the Amazon link in the website, one is selling for $11000!

Insane! - Last time I looked you can pick up copies on eBay for £300ish I think it was. If one comes up a little more reasonably priced, I may be tempted!

Great story in the original post btw, there's so many awesome untold stories from all types of aviators that we never hear - shame.

Mike as you know I have a some friends that flew the Blackbird that I met in California they showed me photos and stories, many they have are amazing, I wonder how many will never be told to anyone. I hope more get shared instead of lost.

I actually used some in my cold war topic at school :) My teacher was amazed!

Excellent Stories.

I have read/got

Lockheed SR71 The secret missions exposed and
SR-71 Blackbird both by Paul F. Crickmore.

Blackbird Rising by D A Byrnes and K D Hurley

and

Skunk Works by Ben R. Rich

All are excellent reads.
It's what 'we' used to do before the days of the Internet and Youtube !

I also had the pleasure of seeing the Blackbird returning from a mission during the early 80's (i'm guessing here).
I was then about to knock at my mates door, looked up and !!!!!!!
He answered the door and thought i'd turned into some kind of lunatic until he looked as well.

Not something you see every day.

There's a new Crickmore's book coming out next week about the SR-71s faster father the A-12.
