The unofficial 50th anniversary of the RAF 1968

Post by zacklaws » Tue Dec 24, 2013 5:09 pm

Came across this today whilst browsing the net about Hawker Hunters, first I have heard of it, but it brought a smile to my face during the stressful time of Xmas.

And in his own words:-

Wonder what Flight Lieutenant Pollock would have done today to make a statement to the Government!

It would make a nice print to frame.

Something even more dramatic occurred in February 1957. A Vampire was flown by John Crossley at 450mph low over Bristol, under the Clifton Suspension Bridge and then John crashed the jet into the South side of the Avon Gorge. This was in protest at the disbanding of his beloved 501 Sqn.

In 1942 a flight of three Spitfires flew in formation under that suspension bridge. Has anyone flown under the Severn, Tay or Forth bridges please?
