Does anyone know if there is any Anniversary celebrations at Scampton around the 16th-17th May this year?
This date is the 70th anniversary of the raids on the dams.

A special tail might be in order for March 21st methinks - could be seen all over the country.

i think something else quite special is happening, thats not been talked about yet, im trying to eeek it out of one or two ppl,

The derwent dam flypast for the 65th i missed, it was invitation only at the waterside, but plenty of toggers on the hill, Richard todd attended aswell as les munro.

Flypast from lanc, spit, hurri, dakota and tornado, i cant miss it again

617 Sqn should/might have a Special Tail for the anniversary

As a gesture of Europeamn unity, perhaps Germany might invite the Lanc to make a flypast down the Ruhr valley. This time in daylight so all can appreciate this piece on engineering.

Love to try and get the Lanc land locked. Anyone know where the best place to go above the dam?

im going up there next month for a recce mission, never been before, i do have the lanc land locked though

Above the Dam is VIP only this year, there are spots further up/down the Dam but not 100% sure where.

went for a recce today...stunning place..but...

finding a spot to tog from is tricky, tall dense trees pack both sides of the dam from ground to maybe 50-60ft

There are a couple of places higher up tree free, but not sure of the visibility and you will need a big lens

Guy in the office says the roads and water side are NOT closed to the public so access should be interesting leading to carnage no doubt

BBMF 2013 display info had been released and no specific mentioned of the Dambuster's Anniversary apart from a sunset ceremony at RAF Scampton - Guess might be added when plans are known fully

Gents - Im going to throw something in here, been bothering me for a while. Why do we celebrate the Dam buster raid? I agree it was a Mavel of bravery, technology and all that, but 1600 of Germans lost their lives. Would we feel the same if the Germans celebrated 'The flattening of Coventry' every year?

Don't get me wrong, I am very patriotic, but I also think that in this modern day, these celebrations should be lower key

We dont "celebrate" we "commemorate" theres a big difference. I dont remember any anniversary being anything other than respectful. Its important to remember what happened as when we forget these things can be repeated. Your argument could easily be stretched to the BBMF itself or the many memorials throughout the country. Its important too that we remember the 1600 that died and war is wrong full stop, so for that thank you.

Of course if the Lanc blasts down the Derwent valley with the reds in tow with full smoke on I will take my comments back.
