Jaguars - UK flying 2013.

Post by 22A » Fri Nov 16, 2012 7:01 pm

British Forces News (on Sky channel 212 6.30 - 7.00pm Mon - Fri) has just reported from Cosford.
They showed two Jags taxying and the CO stated they'll be flying at their 2013 air show.
One of the Jags is in striped livery whilst the other was in desert camo scheme.

I'm sure when the Jags went in they always said they would never leave by air as the runway wasn't long enough.
When they landed they had to deploy the parachute before touching down, I'd say its highly unlikely, more likely they'll be doing a taxi run or 2.

Other themes will include the Jaguar aircraft which will have been in RAF service for 40 years. Although no longer flying they are still used as part of the RAF engineering and technician training schools at RAF Cosford. At the 2012 show a taxiing Jaguar was a popular feature and guests at the launch were treated to a repeat of this demonstration which will also feature in the 2013 Air Show.

Theres no flying Jaguars planned, this quote is accurate!

Worth mentioning is that the quote about them taxing in 13 the same as this year has been posted on the net quite a while before this british forces news report yesterday so this could be the difference.. but we'll have to wait and see i guess.

do not kid yourselves, these airframes will never fly again. The above assumption is correct in the fact they will do a taxi performance only. Regardless of the airworthiness state of these, the runway at cosford is not long enough for the Jag

Also all of the wings are time expired. They swapped them for Omani Jaguar wings last year.

It would be great to see them in the air again, but alas not for a long time me thinks.

As to takeoff, no problem. Minimum fuel and max burners, they can be up! Also remember that the Jaguar is designed to operate from grass.

RAF cosford runway is 3,890 feet - the Jaguar has a minimum takeoff run of 1,607 feet (http://www.aircraftcompare.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;). Obviously you are not going to get a maximum payload and fuel takeoff, but just enough to get to another airfield with longer runway.

Note that even th Typhoon get get up in under 1,000 feet of runway if needed!

There will not be flying Jaguars at Cosford Airshow 2013. There will however be a taxy demonstration, which will hopefully be carried out by XX119.
