Makes for fascinating listening, also impressive is the totally matter of fact way that Dick Coleman and Ian Black dealt with the situation as it became clear that Dick was going to have to 'throw it away'!

I have the witten transcript of the cockpit recorder and it covers the ditching and the rescue of the pilot by the SAR Helicopter and
the landing at Binbrook. The actual recording with Dick Coleman Ian Black and the Binbrook Duty Pilot brings the incident alive.I think it would still be possible to get the written transcript via The Lightning Assocation or perhaps other Lightning fans can help.

Was surprised that Dick Coleman didn`t transmit the `eject` call though.

I always thought that in non emergency ejections, (if thats the correct term?), this was usually done? Unless of course the recording didn`t pick it up?

As a side note, IIRC, this was the incident that led to a bit of black humour on 74 Sqn when a silhouette of a Lightning appeared on one of their F-4J(UK)`s.

Some may have seen recent FlyPast magazine (Aug 12) on 2 man ejection from T.4 XM971
"Eject" call not needed as he was a singleton and once on ground would have his sarbe (search rescue beacon equipment)to assist location for rescue copter.

I am trying to convert some video footage when I went to the scrap auction at Binbrook and filmed 2 lightning's taking off landing and showboating about as well as all the planes available to buy as scrap in various states.

Remember hearing at the time and had a 'cassette tape' copy passed to me - another aircraft to join those already in the Humber estuary!. It was interesting to note that on DC's ejection the throttles didn't close to allow the aircraft to fall and IB had to chase it in its level orbit. I understand that as it turned back toward the caravan parks on the coast from the easterly heading that DC had set it up on IB had instruction to 'shoot it down' or deflect it away to avert the possible disaster.
On a visit to Binbrook just a matter of days before XR769 was out for most of the afternoon on engine runs (minus gun pack)

Just for a bit of further information to this episode DC's flying boots were firmly fixed to the ceiling on display (along with a number of other Lightning ejectees) in the 'Nickerson Arms' at Rothwell - just local to Binbrook. A plaque of all the ejection history's adorned the wall in the lounge -something a bit different!
