What do you think the chances of seeing the flypast from Goodwood/Chichester are in good visibility (because the restriction is 3500ft down so they must fly lower than that)? I'm from near Portsmouth but it looks like heading along to there would give the best chance of seeing something.
If you don't want to head up to Windsor, Goodwood is on for the flypast route, but weather is the big unknown,
blue skies would be great, might even see the aircraft forming up at sea, but if its cloudy, you will just have to
enjoy hearing the aircraft flying over Goodwood. :D

This 85 aircraft thing. I've been trying to work out where best to go, but cant make the numbers add up. So far, we appear to have....

9 Typhoons, operating out of Coningsby????
28 Hawk T1/T2's from Valley, Leeming and Culdrose, all operating out of Yeovilton in an "EiiR" formation
20 Tucanos from Linton, operating out of ????? in a "60" formation
9 Red Arrows
3 (?) Battle of Britain memorial flight aircraft (Lanc, Spit and Hurricane at a guess)

That makes 69 aircraft, so we're 16 short. There are bound to be a few airspares and whips, but still something doesn't add up. There has been talk of a helicopter formation too - which could amount to 16 - operating out of where? Odiham, Benson? And also talk of the flypast involving tanker aircraft (Tristar, VC10, Voyger?) with Tornados in tow.

My gut feeling is to go to Coningsby for the Tiffie launch, then leg it to Marham for any Tornado recoveries. Then to Brize?? for Tucanos, (assuming that's were they'll operate from and return to). I'm Yeovil based, so should be able to get most of the Hawks on Thursday/Friday.

Anyone prepared to fill in some of the gaps?

Cheers
Malcolm

I'd certainly be very interested if anyone has the formation and timing information like that over Buckingham Palace... I may need a bigger piece of paper...

I believe the 85 aircraft flypast in May will go over Windsor Castle, there will be a second; smaller; flypast in June over Buckingham Palace for the Queens birthday.

Hi Everybody,

In the notes from the MOD, it states the the flypast is Tri Service, past and present, so it's not exclusively for the RAF.

The mystery of what aircraft appearing deepens............

Should be great though whatever

My take on the flypast timings is
1100hrs, 9 x Typhoons diamond formation flypast
1220-1230hrs, Mass flypast by the remainder of the 85 aircraft.
I am gonna be at Heathrow at this time awaiting 2 sets of passengers flying into terminal 3, planning on going to the top of the car park where i will be parked anyway, would i be able to see the flypast enough from there, assuming weather is clear enough?

I'm confused now, the no fly zones are from 09:00 until 11:50 so i thought the flypast would be during this time! :S has the time changed?

You're right about the no fly zone times, but I got the info for the BBMF slot of 12:27 straight off their website, so it's still a bit sketchy to me on the actual overfly start/ stop.........unless more info is released this week or anybody else can help.

As for viewing from Heathrow Terminal 3, you're roughly 6 miles away..............gonna need a big zoom.

The times on the NOTAM or what ever would be in ZULU, i.e. an hour behind summer time so what it really means is 10:00 to 12:50. The times on the BBMF site would be the actual time so people dont have to do the maths or cause confusion as to the times the BBMF will fly past somewhere. Hope that un-confuses you Veesup

Latest Info;

The event will begin at 11:00 with a flypast of RAF Typhoons over Windsor Castle in Diamond Nine formation. The event will close at approximately 12:30 with a spectacular tri-Service flypast of 78 aircraft heading up the Long Walk and over the Castle, including helicopters; the famous Lancaster and Spitfires of the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight; Hercules, VC10 and Tornado aircraft; Hawks and Tocanos; finishing with the world-renowned Red Arrows.

The BBC will be broadcasting the entire event live on BBC1 from 10:30.
