Magazines

Post by f-4 » Fri Feb 24, 2012 4:30 pm

I'd be interested in the views of forumites on magazines - especially AirForces Monthly, Combat Aircraft, Air International, Jets et al..

Do they still represent value for money? Have you changed your reading habits lately? Has the Internet rendered them redundant for your needs? Are there too many titles out there chasing too few customers? What do you in particular want?

Here at Key we're always trying to improve, but get very little feedback - tell us what's right and wrong!

Many thanks!

I firmly believe that £3.80 - £4.50 a pop the publishers are pricing themselves out.

If you're looking for a magazine worth reading, can I suggest GAM? http://www.globalaviationmagazine.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; :) Weighs in at the huge cost of...ermmm...free!

Also I enjoyed the catch all content of the old "Aircraft Illustrated". I've not found anything I like which fills it's place. :(

Also I'd be interested in an updated version of Wings or Warplane. A multi-part work which builds into a decent reference source.

As long as it was reasonably priced, that is. :)

I have virtually every issue of Aircraft Illustrated from Vol. 1 Number 1 to the end - it started as a 3 monthly publication in 1968 ( four issues a year and by mail-order only ).

I haven't bought a magazine since it's demise as nothing has replaced it.

Bring back Aircraft Illustrated please.

The only aviation magazine i've bought for years is 'Air and Space' a Smithsonian publication.
You can't beat it !

I picked up a second hand copy at a flea market, loved it and about 6 months later i had an inspiration.
Please Mr Newsagent can you order...............
No problem, been getting it for at least 10 years.
It's bi monthly though.

Fly past I will also buy,

Gary, for an idea of what I'd like to see in an Aviation Magazine you may wish to take a look at The Railway Magazine.

Pair of *****. I should have quantified my post.

The magazine I referred to manages to cover a whole host of topics and areas of interest as well as a numbers area and is lavishly illustrated with excellent quality images. Yet it is not too up itself to include lots of enthusiasts input.

Yes, it's in the price bracket I don't like but it's well worth it for the variety and coverage. There we go, back on the rails..........

I buy Radio User every month. I think Kevin and the rest of the team there do a great job on what's probably a tight budget. Well worth supporting.

I also like Flight International.
