Request - Harrier GR1 pictures

Post by benyboy » Sat Jan 09, 2010 9:55 pm

Hi all

I am trying to find out if the Gr1 ever went to Norway or ever had the winter scheme applied.
Pics would be much appreciated, its for my new modeling project.

Thank you in advance for any help.

Cheers

Ben

Yes they did although I've yet to find any photos - been many years since I've seen any!

But on the wider subject of Harriers, I'm starting work on another book project soon (oh no!), this time it's a big (very big) £40-50 book on the Harrier which Ian Allan will be publishing probably for next Christmas.

So in addition to Ben's request, maybe we could widen it to ask for any interesting Harrier photos? ;)

Theres an old Airfix GR3 kit in the "snow" cammo. It's basically the same cammo as the regular grey/green with white replacing green.
MISSING - x1 Air Force.
If found please return to the UK.

I have seen the Airfix GR3 in snow cammo, I should have bought a GR3 but got carried away when I saw the GR1 on Ebay.

Ben, you could always drop a line to John about that photo - he's probably got a closer shot in his collection and he's a very helpful bloke. Anyway it's proof positive that some GR1's were snow camouflaged. I haven't found any shots yet but I know there used to be some floating around so hopefully they'll pop up eventually!

I photographed a preserved GR.1 (XV278) at Gatow Air museum about three years ago, at the time the Harrier seemed to have a snow like camo-scheme. But having viewed the images again I've realised the grey has simply faded white. Would you like me to upload them anyway?

Sheff - I have spoken to him by pm over on Key, he is going to have a look for some.

Roughcutter - Thank you, any pics appreciated. I have looked at the Gatow museum Harrier on airliners.net , it does need a touch up here and there. If you have photos of all the collection at Gatow, could we see them in the Warbirds section please.

Wasn't XV278 one of a pre-production batch of GR1's that never saw service with the RAF ?
