Marshall Aerospace Scoop Up Slingsby

Post by GOOSE » Sat Jan 09, 2010 7:40 pm

From DefenseNews -

Marshall Aerospace has acquired British-based specialist composite structures manufacturer Slingsby Advanced Composites. The terms of the deal have not been disclosed.

The acquisition will add composites expertise to Marshall Aerospace's existing metal aerospace structures capabilities, the company said in a statement released Jan. 7. It's the first significant acquisition by Marshall Aerospace in a history that stretches back nearly 80 years.

Slingsby employs more than 130 people based at two design and manufacturing sites in northern England and Scotland. The company produces composites for the defense, aerospace, marine and rail sectors. The product lineup runs from fast-jet helmets for Eurofighter pilots up to stealthy gunshields for the Royal Navy's Type 45 destroyers and hydroplanes for the new Astute class of nuclear submarines.

Martin Broadhurst, CEO at Cambridge, England-based Marshall Aerospace, said the acquisition was one of the most important the company has ever undertaken.

"The combined forces of both companies will establish a benchmark in the aerostructures engineering industry. I believe Slingsby's capabilities in composites will strongly complement those of Marshall Aerospace," he said.

Marshall Aerospace, which employs more than 1,700 people, is part of the privately owned Marshall Group, which has interests ranging from specialist military vehicles to automobile sales.
