Hi all.

I'm trying to plan a trip to the Loop later in the spring. Its a place that I have never been to but seeing some of the pictures that have been posted I'm inspired to go. I was wonderring if any other member would be intrested as well. I'm a novice and havn't got a camera yet, but hope to by spring.

I was going to try and time my visit with an exercise so that over a couple of days it should produce some good traffic. I would love any advise from anyone whos been or better still meet up with some locals that could show me the ropes.

It would be great to meet other F/C members, if anyone else is intrested then we could go as a group. I'm in the Doncaster area and would be more than happy to give a lift to anyone who wants to come along.

Is there any good BB's around the area? I'm sure there will be loads of questions that I will think of later.
On this subject are there any other planned visits in the pipe line, would F/C be intrested in orginising such events??

Any help in this matter would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Craig,

I go to the loop once a week so give us a shout nearer the time and I may be able to help. Forget going when there is an excercise on as this normally kills the loop stone dead!

Join one of the dedicated low fly web groups. All the info you could ever want. Some of the groups have novice meet ups and forum sections for beginners.

Also check to see how many squadrons are home at Cottesmore/Marham/Lakenheath etc, if a lot are home that gives you more of a chance to see some frontliners.

I'm quite lucky. I live in a small village called llanwnog nr Caersws at the east end of the Loop and it's nice to sit out in the Garden on a Summer's day watching the Planes come over. Also get A.C.M . Last Summer had 4 Harrier's having a Dogfight. Brilliant!!! Unexpecting Hawks from Valley being pounced on by a Tornado F3 or an F15C.

Since moving here in 2004 have seen the following more unusal aircraft

C17,E3D,F16's(52FW),Mirage 2000's(French Air Force),A10's,Tornado & Typhoon(Saudi Air Force),Alpha Jet

can some one explain what "Cad West" and "Cad East" is please I want to see the A/C top side which is the best place to go? seen some great video on you tube. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Simply the west and east sides of the Cadair Pass (Tal-y-Llyn pass).

'Machynlleth Loop - Tal-y-Llyn pass west side (Cad West)'

'Machynlleth Loop - Tal-y-Llyn pass east side (Cad East)'

The best side for top-sides is Cad West. It can be tricky in the morning as you are facing into the light.
