4th january, Base viewing

Post by nick197 » Mon Dec 28, 2009 9:48 am

Just wandered is anyone else going to any bases on the 4th?. Luckly i've got the 4th off work  . My choices are all in this priority
1. Cottesmore, With the romour of cottesmore closing i really want to visit.
2. Lakenheath, Cant beat the sound of eagles.
3. Coningsby, I've only ever been once before to this base but its a bit far 200 miles.
4. Brize norton, Visit this base more than 20 times a year which is why its at the bottom.
I hope this is in the right section, Mods feel free to move if it is'nt.

That's a good point mate, I'll still give it a go weather permitting as its quite rare for me not to have to use holiday to visit a base.

I would be inclined to visit Lakenheath myself as I don't think the Yanks go overboard with Christmas (as we do), but like Figgis says be prepared for a slow Monday start. In which case there's always the Hall down the road - which is 24/7 ;)

John's field is currently closed to cars, but I'm not sure how long for.

Does that mean that movements could be limited?

Yep i would say movement would be slightly limited going on past experience, usually takes a couple of days to get back into full swing. Remember Cottesmore might be on night schedule so there might not be much activity till 1 or 2 pm anyway

You can always go down the road at the side of Johns, if all else fails you could even pop over to marshals. I think there are still hercs and bits knocking about.
I will have a look on my way home if you like to see whats about

Bet you're sorry you started this thread Nick. :D
Well if even the good ol' weather's against you there's always Duxy further down the road, you might even bump into Penpusher doing one of his "bimbles" there!
