RAF Herks revert to airdrop resupply in 'Stan

Post by Dunk » Sat Dec 12, 2009 3:40 pm

Crews from RAF Lyneham are reverting to Second World War methods of resupplying troops on the front line in Afghanistan by air drops, helping to reduce the danger posed by roadside bombs.

Seems airdrops are back on the cards, thanks to new accurate computer technology to work out where and when to drop the loads.

I thought crews were trained and paid to work these things out?!!!

Very interesting video - i wander if its something QinetiQ have developed? I wander where they practice - certainly never seen/heard them do this on the plain...

Probably developed at QinetiQ's own Blackball Firs DZ on SPTA like most of the air drop techniques are.... could be wrong though.
