Reported that two seat Spitfire G-BMSB had to make a forced landing in a Kent cornfield yesterday evening. Pictures show it on its belly with a severely mangled propeller.

Both occupants ok and it looks like a pretty 'decent' landing in the circumstances.

This made me laugh though.

We have spoken to the pilot who has advised that a precautionary landing was made at a non-airfield site.

Surely you don't risk landing in an unknown place like a crop field unless its an actual emergency!

Anyway a very good outcome in difficult circumstances, so well done to the pilot.

Seen the Australian marked Spitfire on adsb today, possible the cause was known

When you book flights in these lovely old aircraft, it's done on the basis of 'informed consent' Basically, they are old and can break, so you fly at your own risk.
Compare the number of flights with incidents, and the odds are on your side, with more chance of getting hurt travelling to and from the airport.
I see one of the tabloids had to get in with 'narrowly missing......' something or other.
