RAF Sculthorpe, 1953

Reis Leming Airman 2nd class, United States Air Force, 67th Air Rescue Squadron While stationed at RAF Sculthorpe, he saved the lives of 27 people in floods in East Anglia on 31 January 1953 by venturing alone on a small rubber raft in the dark.

He was part of the volunteer group based at Sculthorpe who spent hours in the floods. Awarded the George Medal.

What a wonderful story and I am glad that the guy's heroism was recognised both by the US and UK and later by Her Majesty the Queen. Thanks for posting it.
