" Argentina’s capability to meet current and future threats" hmm; is Chile, Peru or Brazil threatening them?
Or,heaven forbid, could the Argies be contemplating offensive action in the South Atlantic?

The Argentinian military is in a rather parlous state from memory.... Ours may not be at a level it was in 1982, but we still have some means to defend a self governing enclave down south.

A "weapons package" is all very well, but the aircraft are pushing 40 years old, are complicated to operate and maintain, and could hardly be considered "cutting edge" any more...

Think that's a similar view as was taken about the A-4's which wreaked such havoc in 1982....

Now there IS that view, yes. I think we were all surprised by what they could do in what turned out to be the "right" hands...

I don't think they will want the Falklands back.

While the F-16 is still a very capable aircraft, don't forget they will be facing off against the F-35 and the Typhoon, both much more able than the 16 if they really saw it nessacery to try and retake the Falklands.

Spoke to someone who was over there a month ago and they seemed to think that their struggling with enlistment and want to bring back conscription just to keep minimum personnel numbers!

Not to mention our two new aircraft carriers and nuclear submarines (remember how effective they both were...)

Then you don’t know Argentina well then.

I’d also suggest they with their somewhat….. words fail me…. Colourful shall we say….. president failing to deliver on his promised (with a chain saw) cost cuts and inflation decrease then the conditions for a distraction couldn’t be more present.
