Reading the report it smacks of sloppy airmanship which resulted with no injuries to anyone not involved.

23,000 hours!!!. Familiarity breeding contempt? However, nobody is perfect, probably lots of conversation with the back- seater, distractions . S..t happens. Glad it was a good ending. There is a VERY good reason why flight deck crews have a 'sterile cockpit' below 10,000 ' when the only thing being discussed is flying the aircraft. When I was throwing myself out of perfectly good aircraft, it was always the experienced guys, [I wasn't particularly] who were hurting themselves, legs, ankles etc. Novices did things by the book!. Doesn't matter which airline he works for. Check lists are mandatory in procedures.

Checklists? I agree but have never seen general aviation pre-flight checks done holding one! In my (non-aviation) experience, if the checklist is done after the checks, everything is ticked whether it was done or not. The checklist needs to go round with the person and each item done one at a time.

Yep, seen them used, used them myself early on as a student 'cos my instructor chappie liked them but only used them later with a non-familiar type.
