Will it help XH558 as they might have some spare hangars now, or will it all be flattened for another Amazon warehouse, or similar.

VTTS announced last month i think that they are looking at options to move as they have to leave. like you say it will most likely become a warehouse hub.

latest was, yes the Vulcan has to move out and has been given a deadline of early next year.
The airport will close, the last TUI flight is November 4th.
Plan is to close all flying ops and convert to a warehouse or distribution hub, it's the end of RAF Finningley

Maybe the RAF could take it back over - what with the increases in military spending & current world tensions maybe some new baskets for our eggs needed.

That was if (Peel) accepted the offer from those trying to save it..... Finningley Close, street, avenue and Business Park likely coming by end 2023...
With a triangle shaped gate guardian

Planned wind down is from 31st October 2022 >>>

It's really sad news and my thoughts go out to the 800+ direct employee's and 2,700 people that depend on the airport in the supply chain. Doncaster airport been an excellent place to live near (I'm right by the side on runway) with regular RAF training flights and overseas military visitors (plus unusual civi visitors - An12, An124, An225, Il76 etc). Whatever the outcome and impact for XH558, the loss for (local) enthusiast and the impact of turning an airport in to warehouses on the local small/ rural villages and communities; it's the employee's I'm thinking of today.

A large warehouse complex the size of the old airport could provide jobs for more than the 800 lost at DSA though.

Low paid 24 hour shift warehouse monkeys do not equally highly skilled aviation professionals. Ok there will be a small number of low paid cleaners, baggage handlers, etc but that would be a small part of the employees. Check out the lists of civil operators basing aircraft and servicing them at Doncaster they will all have to move and that costs money, even if suitable locations can be found. The comparisum to Scampton is not "like for like" Doncasters runway and infrastructure is in good condition and once lost will never be recovered. There can not be that many civil airport's with spare capacity to host the ad-hoc transports? Peel's plans to close the airport are based on the assumption that more money can be made from the warehouse / private housing plan. Govenment should refuse the planning and the land become worthless for other than aviation use.

these people will be out of a job by the end of the year and there may not be a warehouse for some time so how do they pay their bills in the meantime? yes there may be great opportunities for them in the future but it doesn't solve their problems for today!

From what we're being told, Doncaster will not close a whole just yet. It will close to airline movements, but will highly possibly still take cargo movements and of course the based 2Excel aircraft for atleast another year. This could obviously still change at any moment, but that's how it stands as of right now.

Not sure I agree with you there. Happy to be corrected but I'm not aware any of the operators had fixed bases at the airport and thus a local cabin and flight crew contingent. Other than line maintenance there wouldn't have been any significant MRO and Engineering set ups. possibly a small helicopter operation and some small support organisations but nothing huge. No operator was HQ'd there so no back office Procurement, Finance, IT, Legal etc. professionals would have been there. Outside of ATC and some airport local management and operational roles I'd suggest the highly skilled roles were the minority?
Ultimately, to me, it's the loss of yet another runway and once gone never to return. With the proposed electric air taxi and such operations in the future then surely hubs need to be invested in, not closed......

Ain't that the truth! Indeed, in this day and age the merest mention of planning permission to build a new runway, would incur the wrath of the Nimby's, eccologist's, environmental lobby groups etc.
When it's gone it's gone, end of!

With regards to Runway capacity Doncaster is ringed by 4 other Runways at Humberside, Leeds East Midlands and Manchester, so its just not that important to the land owners as a runway when they (peel holdings) can make far more revenue out of warehouse and distribution or housing if they so wish
the passenger flights will transfer to other airports so no loss to the airlines, most of the lower paid staff will become "Monkeys" to quote one poster here (still disgusted with this term of phrase for hardworking people)
so in the end the only people who really loose out are the enthusiast who live locally
