Cobra Warrior Take Two 2022.

Post by reaper493 » Sun Jun 05, 2022 4:01 pm

Hearing rumours of CW 2022 occuring in September again from a few sources.

Finnish Air Force and Italian Air Force to Waddington is what I've heard so far.

Should be 1 other air arm to Waddo which I've forgotten (Germany/Spain) rings a bell??, and hopefully something to Coningsby and/or Leeming as well.

Let's hope this one doesn't get scrubbed 🤞🤞

This would be great news Mike. I only live across the city so a nice local exercise for a change. Spanish air force typhoons would be nice.

Wonder if that will disrupt the Reds move to the base later this year?

It shouldn't, the Red's will be moving in to bays 1-7 (used to be called Alpha) which has never been used for Exercises due to having the Sentries.

Work will begin to prep the area for them once the E-3s have gone (end of July).

Here’s hoping, I’d make the trek from Birmingham if there’s Tonkas. I may even go sooner on account of that update regarding the E3s leaving!

For those that haven’t read the latest edition of Air Forces Monthly, in the RAF part of the European Fighter Survey, it mentions Cobra Warrior along with Storm Warrior are the dominant air exercises this summer.

Thread massively tidied.

1 - Things are not what they used to be, yes we get that.
2 - Let's not have any more insults or 'handbags at dawn' please.

There is likely to be road closures and a heavy police (and probably Wave staff marshal) presence again.
The hedge is not yet cut, and is about 10ft high.

Should be around 15 fighters operating from Waddo from two nations, plus two Awacs types.

Well done and well said Reaper493. I cannot get a 10ft+ ladder in my car so praying for team-Waddo to employ a hedge cutter before the Ex.!

Is it all still happening?

A fellow FC'er mentioned the Finnish and Swedes cancelled - perhaps to focus more on their easterly neighbourhood?

If the German and Italian support flights turn up next week, you'll know.

I thought Finland and Sweden were taking part because of their "easterly neighbours".. we will know soon enough.

If they are, they're not coming to Waddo. Fins were meant to be coming here as per original post, but it appears they have cancelled.

Germans (1 type) and Italians (2 types) to Waddo only, plus a possible NATO E-3 occasionally - could operate for GC and land in as and when.

As the famous saying goes all will be revealed in due course. No need for all the speculation.

If you want official facts, go to an official source. If you want speculation, come to an enthusiasts forum. Keep the speculation coming, some of us appreciate it, even it it proves wrong some of the time !

I don't think Coningsby is having anything this time, the Swedes were potentially going there but as above it appears have cancelled.

The Fins were meant to be coming to Waddo but have also cancelled.

Ex starts w/c 5th September, with the exercise occurring mon/weds/fri as in previous years on wk 1 and 3, but tues/thurs on wk2.

Support flights start next week.

Cheers

Mike

Your 'Crystal Ball' still seems to be quite clear? Mine is slightly scratched these days but....Waddington is the place to be! Maybe Fast Forward 2022 with an earlier date, same Air Forces, but only one bringing Tornado's! ;)
Support a/c & NATO E3A probably making an appearance as required. Possibly the first chance to see a GAF C-130 for some?
Not seeing much for other suggested bases Leeming, Coningsby & Marham, which could either indicate a rash of Cancellations or my worsening eyesight? :O
