Chester MiG

Post by 22A » Sat May 14, 2022 10:50 am

Passing by Chester airport I noticed at the West end a silver MiG21with a red star on the fin and a graffiti Sukhoi(?) beside it.
Are these off to a museum of private collection please?

The MiG-23 & MiG-27 that we have on display at the museum have both been on loan from Hawarden Air Services since 2002 - back in 2019 the two that we have went of site for use in the marvel film 'Black Widow'.

I think they have been there almost 30 years, there used to be more but have slowly been dispersed to museums etc. Originally arrived at Liverpool Seaforth Docks in the early 1990s.

I forgot to mention that the MiGs we display were selected for the 'Black Widow' filming because we had secured valid deactivation certificates for both airframes; something that also allows us to sometimes open the cockpits for viewing!

Ironically, the cockpits on both MiGs are more complete than many of those on ex-RAF aircraft! :S
