USAF operated types not exported

Post by POL » Tue May 03, 2022 4:23 pm

Having a conversation with dad and we noted the A-10 was never exported to other countries. That led to going back to see what other fast-jet/fighter types we could think of!

F-22
A-10
F-117
F-105
F-89

We couldn't think of any others going all the way back to WWII - any additions welcome!

I know it’s not a fast jet but.

AC130

Provides close air support just like an A10

What about the U2 ?
I know they were flown by ‘foreigners’ but I don’t think they were ever sold to other countries. Just flown under different flags.
And
Aren’t all these planes exported ? Otherwise they could only fight wars on the US mainland, I’m sure at least some of them went overseas :-)

No, exported means sending to another country for sale.

Whilst you are correct the AC130 has not been sold elsewhere, the C130 has so would come under that as the main type rather than a sub type, plus as said in the original piece Fast Jets is what we were discussing at the time
but I thank all the contributors to the piece

SO to sum up
F-89
F-94
F-105
F-106
F-117
A-10
F-22

and for completeness none Fighter fast jets
B-1
B-36
B-47
B-52
B-58
B-66
B-2
C-5
C-141
SR-71

These are USAF types.
How about USN types like F3D F4D F11F F3H? Anymore? Or separate threat?
And A-3 and A-5

To add to the non-fighter list:

B-47 (notwithstanding a one-off loan to Canada; airborne testbed for the 'Arrow' engine.)

Yes missed that even though in our discussion yesterday we spoke about it, and of course the B-36 which was both jet and prop
