A KETTLE OF HAWKS

With the Hawk T.1 OSD set for 31 March 2022 it begs the question what are the MoD to do with nearly 30 retired Hawk T.1s (736NAS, 100 Sqn and the CAM) and a further 44 or so in store? Assuming that some will remain as sustainment at AS&MU for RAFT that's still 70+/- Hawks T.1's to be found homes for. Now that is what call a disposals car crash! It certainly will empty out Shawbury if they all head for the breakers.

speaking of hawks, how much longer are the reds planning to keep using hawks???

Cosford might take more as ground instructional trainers.

Quite a few of the airframes that have been in long term storage at Shawbury have had some spares recovery done on them anyway

Indeed, 1 SoTT at Cosford might take more although they already have ten. I wondered if the 736NAS Hawks would replace the 4 Sea Harriers at SFDO and if Draken International might do a big buy. There is of course enough for every substantial museum to have one!

Very unlikely that Draken will buy them as BAE weren't keen on helping the US mob that bought the ex RoKAF T.67s certainly not after the first incident, and definitely not after the second.

Totally agree! Even the UK entity wouldn't touch them even if BAE were to be involved. The Hawk T1/T1a situation is entirely of the RAF's own making with successive VSOs accepting what they knew to be a questionable (non existent) safety case. Every single one of them who signed the annual Duty Holders Safety Statement accepting the known shortfalls is culpable.

Not very likely as the 75 remaining odd jets that are not in use/for use with the Reds will be spares recovered al la Tornado RTP style, and whats left will be turned to washing machines.

"Bluerigger" reported in the Leeming section that XX332 and XX200 have already arrived at Valley for RTP. I suspect that most of the effective and stored fleet will end up like this, apart from those allocated to be Reds replacements up to 2030 (possibly beyond) and a few more for training aids/museums etc. A few pre-Mod 2010 airframes have already been sold privately.
