I accidentally clicked that link to the ThFC website, and I feel so dirty. I need a shower now.

Having seen many “ USAF flypasts” in the UK over many years, it wouldn’t surprise me if they went over the Emirates Stadium instead

Re: NFL London Flypasts (October 2021)
A long time ago, but I certainly remember being at Upper Heyford circa 1971 and the USAF 'flyby' was five miles away, and I think few people saw them. I also remember something similar from our American cousins elsewhere around that time.

Re: NFL London Flypasts (October 2021)
Never mind something as "small" as a stadium, the Americans regularly failed to find RAF airfields on a sunny summer afternoon for shows during the 50s and 60s. The commentator would announce (for example) " and next we have a flypast by four F101 Voodoos from the 81ST Tactical Fighter Wing". Approximately five minutes would go by and then the commentator would come on and say "well it seems the Americans can't find the airfield so we'll move on to the next item". If you were very lucky you might see four dots go past on the horizon!

So you are basing your comment on events you recall as far back as 50 years ago, whilst other members have to go back 70 years!

Re: NFL London Flypasts (October 2021)
In July 2004 ( I'm sorry, I don't have the exact day and time) a B52 intending to do a flypast at Farnborough managed to entertain a very much smaller and rather surprised audience at Blackbushe.
Perhaps not so recent but nothing like 50 to 70 years ago.

Re: NFL London Flypasts (October 2021)
Lots of thread drift.
To put a small balance here XI(F) Sqn virtually missed Coningsby during their stand-up parade flypast in 2007. They ended up passing the 25 end. Rather than the main ASP, the comms were very entertaining. In fairness it was a very
overcast day.
During the first NFL Wembley game again in 2007, it was meant to be KC-135 and F-15 flypast. The practice was held at Coningsby. Ultimately the weather made them cancel the actual flypast

Re: NFL London Flypasts (October 2021)
Ian. The B.52 flypast was NOT a mistake by the crew. The ATC [probably at Farnborough] asked the B.52 for a speed reduction far too late for them to comply, so the flypast at F'boro was abandoned, and they overflew Blackbushe before departing back for home. They did not display over Blackbushe despite press reports at the time. Urban myth I'm afraid. The RF 4 Phantom supposed to be opening a Duxford show later, was a very different kettle of fish, and surprised some Tiger Moths at Cambridge Airport!.
I think that the B.52 occurrence was somewhere in the late eighties???

Re: NFL London Flypasts (October 2021)
Correct that they didn't "display" at Blackbushe, but they definitely did do a single low pass at high speed after being released by Odiham Radar to fly through at Farnborough !
The Buff's request to Farnborough regarding the quality of the flyby was met with.... When? What? Due to their course after Blackbushe they were ordered immediate right 90 degree turn to avoid a greater incursion into the LHR (Heathrow) TMA. I watched this from high ground on the Golf Course whilst monitoring ATC on the trusty AOR 1000. First & ONLY visual for Farnborough personnel that day was when the B-52 appeared heading southwest one mile behind the crowdline! He offered to turn around & fly northeast on the runway heading but ATC declined & handed him off back to Odiham for onward transit rtb Fairford.

Re: NFL London Flypasts (October 2021)
Hi, Supra. I agree with what you are saying. What the inference by press reports was that the crew couldn't navigate their way out of a paper bag, and mis-identified the airfield. This plainly was not the case, unlike the afore-mentioned Phantom crew. Regard, John.
Re: NFL London Flypasts (October 2021)
The Tornado last flight was some 200 m left of the centreline of RAF Cottesmore. Whether by design or not we will never know

Never said anything like that!…..different poster!

Then my initial request still stands, what are you basing your comment on, which I felt was a bit disrespectful to the USAF?

Missing an airfield isn't confined to the RAF &USAF; the Danes did a great F-100 display for the Abingdon B0B show (78/79?) - over Brize Norton.
