Re: Bournemouth ditching
It's not a 'crash', but a controlled ditching.

Re: Bournemouth ditching
It makes me smile, in my limited experience of these matters “ditching” is just a more specific word for “crash”.

There's no "go-round" in a glider.

Re: Bournemouth ditching
Nimrod XW666 ditched in the Moray Firth in 1995 and that was not a crash. And it was under control by someone more knowledgeable than some on here clearly
Re: Bournemouth ditching
Ditchings and forced landings are not crashes. They are controlled. Crashes are not controlled. Simples.

Re: Bournemouth ditching
So, in the article they say the Wingwalker was on top of the plane when it hit the water and a few paragraphs down says she was already back in the plane.
They call the aircraft a Tigermoth.
Thousands of people in attendance watched in horror - It happened in Poole and was not visible to the people at the show
Really glad there doesn't seem to be any serious injury to the Pilot and the Wingwalker. Met them a few times and they are lovely people. One of my favourite displays.

Jason. Bear in mind that the reporter is probably taking information by telephone from an agitated spectator, who may not know a Galaxy from an F.35. Reporting is a very competitive business, achieving printing deadlines etc., and it is not always possible to verify all the facts. I don't like the Mail, but cut them a little slack, eh?? And the 'B' word is much nicer than that awful; ''f' word if you must resort to such language. Youngsters on this site!!!.
Re: Bournemouth ditching
Apparently the wingwalker had time to get into the front cockpit before the ditching.jasonT1981 wrote: ↑Sun Sep 05, 2021 1:05 amSo, in the article they say the Wingwalker was on top of the plane when it hit the water and a few paragraphs down says she was already back in the plane.

Professional reporting is supposed to be accurate, otherwise what is the point. No wonder it gets branded the Fail as it does just that! No excuses, no slack cut.
Modern day reporting in many outlets is simply appalling. Often all for money and little care.

Re: Bournemouth ditching
I completely agree and I see that some news outlets are still reporting that there were 2 passengers on board!Nighthawke wrote: ↑Sun Sep 05, 2021 10:47 amProfessional reporting is supposed to be accurate, otherwise what is the point. A controlled ditching up to the point where it ended upside down and damaged, and possibly became a crash?Mike wrote: ↑Sat Sep 04, 2021 5:38 pmIt's not a 'crash', but a controlled ditching.

Doesnt actually matter to me as its just a Full Emergency leading to an Aircraft Accident!
Re: Bournemouth ditching
If they walked away surely it was just a landing??? ...
A 'good' landing is one from which you can walk away. A 'great' landing is one after which they can use the plane again

No reference to swimming nuns or kids on inflatables narrowly avoiding flying wreckage so all a bit of a non-story.

Non-story? Not for those involved it isn't!

Re: Bournemouth ditching
No. Flying went ahead on Sunday.

It’s not what you look at that matters. It’s what you see.
Re: Bournemouth ditching
Both pilot and wing-walker escaped with minor injuries, which is the most important thing:
