Possible F-35B Bingo Fuel situation averted
Possible F-35B Bingo Fuel situation averted
According to the dubious reporting of the Pompey local paper an incident involving a USMC F-35B from the QE.Carrier resulted in a diversion to the mainland? Not seen this reported elsewhere.

If there's any truth in this 'story' (ie:-it's called USS 'THE Sullivans' & was in your Port 10 days ago! ) it does fit with my previously noted views on this Forum regarding the 'B' model. Lugging an over-sized Dyson around that occupies a large zone that could be utilised for fuel & bombs has never been that clever!

Widely reported across social media so not dubious reporting at all. And to be fair, cat’n’trap aircraft regularly divert due to fouled decks or inability to trap aboard.
Never trust a grown man with a nickname

Apologies chaps! Don't do Face-ache, Insta-gran or Spick-spock. Sooo! You're telling me that the Portsmouth News was wrong in it's assertion that this incident was fuel related?? Therefore worse than dubious, in fact plain wrong! Therefore, not only did this Pilot allegedly take-of with a defective tyre, but managed to sustain a puncture/leak in flight?
One can easily imagine this USMC pilot is blasting along nicely within range of the Carrier when "Ding dong" the tyre-pressure monitoring device triggers in the stowed undercarriage & shows a message on the HUD..."Don't even think about a vertical landing without rolling forward on a reinforced Carrier-deck coz you got a semi-soft tyre! Best you make for a runway at a civil airport (without a reinforced concrete F-35B landing pad) where you can land conventionally on a runway & roll to a standstill on your flat tyre... then taxy to parking, get out & pat yourself on the back whilst the potentially Covid-ridden fire-crew look-on.
Pump-up the tyre & back to the ship without isolating? Oh!... & fill her up to the brim Señor Tankerdriver.

you crack me up, Supra
Re: Possible F-35B Bingo Fuel situation averted
Of course Supra et al, if your options are to either risk damage to a carrier deck, or worse given the tight working environment, and render it unusable, vs. safely landing onshore with all the emergency services and facilities and real estate you need, there really is only one sensible option.

The left rear tyre does look a bit on the flat side?

Fake News! He obviously let that tyre down after landing to hide the fact that he was short of fuel!
