Bye bye F-22 and F-15E
No great surprises.
The USAF's current seven-fleet mix of fighters will be reduced to “four…plus one”. The mix will include the A-10 “for a while", the Next-Generation Air Dominance system, the F-35 “which will be the cornerstone” of the fleet, the F-15EX, and the F-16 or its successor.

Disappointed about the F-22 Raptor as never managed to see one. The F-15EX Seems an interesting bird if it's the successor to the F-15E, will there be any EXs based at Lakenheath eventually or is The Heath going to be a soley F-35 base?

Re: Bye bye F-22 and F-15E
I don't think the F-22s or any other type will be gone within 5 to 10 years, maybe longer. As there is no direct replacement yet. So still time to see F-22. This is the long time planning.
Also with F-15EX, F-16, F-35 and A-10 and the NGAD and the study in to a cheap F-16 replacement makes up more than 4 types. Thing with USA is there will always be some type(s) in production replacing large quantity of older types and so more than 4-5 types will be in operational use for some time.
F-15C/D, F15E and F-15EX are seen as 3 different types although I think I their is some compatibility. There will also a study to maybe bring the F-15 E up to F-15EX standard (all depending on possibilities and costs)

Re: Bye bye F-22 and F-15E
The F-15E's emerging problem is age, it's airframe is only 10 years younger than the increasingly worn out F-15C fleet - which itself suffered some expensive mid-life pains. It'll go quickly when it goes is my expectation, especially given they're now using it for munitions transport and a cruise missile launch platform. It doesn't surprise me that the USAF is trying to find ways the F-15E can bring value without pulling low level Gs, although those new heavyweight missions won't help.
Re: Bye bye F-22 and F-15E
out of interest... where would you likely see an F-22 in Europe?
Airshow, deployment stops, TDY's ?
It's one of the few aircraft that I'd actually go out of my way an make a trip to see

All three of the above. They have been over for airshows and have been on deployment to Lakenheath in the past. Have also passed through/visited when deployed in Europe

This article,(if it's true and if the USAF actually gets approval from congress) would seem to signal the end of the 493 FS by end of FY2026.

Not sure what that means for Kadena? Are they already slated for F-35?AirForceTimes wrote: The 421 aircraft described in the talking points include a total phase-out of the aged F-15C/D fleet, numbering about 234 aircraft, by the end of fiscal 2026.

Personally I would say that if you want to see some plan a US trip for when travel restrictions are eased. Nellis is your best bet. They are based in greater quantity at other locations but Nellis is about the easiest place to see them. Moreover, go when a Red Flag is on and you will get a great mix and lots of flying.

Re: Bye bye F-22 and F-15E
Went to Vegas last year for Red Flag 1, and saw more F22's that you could ever wish to see, and F35's and B1's and F18's and EF-18's and Typhoons and Wedgetail etc etc., well worth a trip, I try and do it every couple of years.
Re: Bye bye F-22 and F-15E
I'd say so... naïve me didn't even know Nellis was so close by until I saw a C-17 lining up to land when I was on top of the Stratosphere..
